Recently I did a funny and hopefully informative interview on Scary Mommy for my birth photography work, link here: https://www.facebook.com/madgethevag/videos/2667762863237744
Funny story. I was approached to do the interview, was familiar with Scary Mommy and had heard of Madge the Vag. I did a quick Google search to familiarize myself with the show which brought me to a YouTube link with some videos. Each video had a few thousand views on YouTube, so I quickly said yes thinking it was no big deal to do an interview. Only a couple thousand people would see this, so no stress, right?
The day of the interview, a full 10-person professional camera crew showed up to my photo studio (www.neststudio.nyc) for the shoot, which should have been my first clue this was bigger than I anticipated. We went about the shoot which was super fun and I was at ease, no nerves, still clueless about the reach of this program. After we wrapped, I Googled the program again and it finally sunk in – Scary Mommy has almost 4 million followers on Facebook to which this would be posted. WHAT. Nerves, butterflies, all the anxieties come flooding in, not to mention second guessing everything like why I hadn’t gone shopping for OMG most perfect outfit EVER. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
So the video gets released and it gets over 500k views in the first weekend, amazing! Overall I love how it turned out, but in the editing process, so much good content was left on the cutting room floor. No, birth photography is not all about the crowning shot which the piece focuses on a lot – but that’s the Scary Mommy humor that hopefully most people understand. I also talked extensively about my doula work and how I balance out the two skills in the moment. They decided to split the doula talk into a separate segment, so guess what, I get another interview on Madge the Vag to be released soon. More to come….
